From what I've read on this forums, I've put together a simple study guide on Destroyer for Newbies:

1. Do 15 problems from each section for a total of 60 problems per day.
2. Once you finish a section, add those 15 probs to remaining section and review finished sections (BIO has more problems and will take you longer to finish)
3. You will finish Destroyer in about 14 days (two weeks)
4. Repeat from step 1 until you are getting at least a 20 on each natural science section and QR of practice exams
5. This is easier said than done.

What do you think, Destroyer Vets? Other suggestions?

To each his/her own, but good idea. Personally, at first it took me a while to go through it. But last week I went through everything-all four sections in 3 days. I plan to go through it again this week and every week until my DAT. Ive been through all already 3/4 times and counting. Destroyer is my bible!

arent you basically memorizing the questions and not really understanding the materal? (or am i missing the point)

Missing the point-going through hard questions well which require concentration gets me used to certain synthesis and reactions- gets me used to lot of the theory questions. With all of this a question on the DAT can be approached like Oh this is similar to that question that I saw in destroyer.

Yea,

Do 80 bio and 50 gchem/ochem each day is good. 15 each is kinda to slow....
50 chem in a row then go backto check? its taking me a while to do 10 prb (if i dont know something im looking at the solutions trying to get what i got wrong)

I'm taking the test next June and I need to murder the DAT to compensate for my GPA, so I made every single Destroyer question into a flashcard. I'm going to go through every single one of those damn things until I have them memorized and know EXACTLY how to do each one. May be overkill for some, but 30's don't come easy so we'll see if it pays off...

I think the logic behind each question is more important then ripping through the entire book as fast as possible....

I advise doing 1 problem at a time then checking the answer and attempting to understand what you did wrong, it will take significantly longer to go through the book the first time but I think what you will gain makes the cost worth it...

Then redo the book as fast as possible and returning to problems that you didn't understand to re-write out what you did wrong and write out the correct answer...

Also as you go through destroyer you should find areas your weak in you shouldn't just blow over that and assume since you figured out that one problem your fine you should hop on wiki and look stuff up to strengthen your weaker areas.

You shouldn't use destroyer right away you should have an idea of the subject before you tear into it....destroyer is useful at REALLY testing your understanding if you don't know something cold destroyer will let you know what you need to step up with...

The first time you go through it should be slow the next few times should be significantly faster.

so timing yourself the first time around with destroyer isnt something you suggest... you're saying time yourself the 2nd time around, right?

The 1st time should take 10 times longer then the 2nd. I have gone through questions I already did and the second time, I knew the answer and why the others were wrong instantly (for the most part).

Each subsequent "run-through" should take a shorter amount of time than the previous, if that makes sense. 🙂 But I guess everyone is different.

I've found supplementing Destroyer with wikipedia or a textbook helps a lot.

Seriously 😛

The first time around is def to go over concepts not work on your speed....use pratice tests and pratice questions from other sources to do that.

I advise studying like this:

Get a kaplan or barons or some sort of study book, go through it rather quickly attempting to go over key concepts do the pratice problems..

THEN do destroyer, you'll quickly realize what your strengths and weakness's are then using that data improve your weakness's by finding other resources to help those areas.

After this you can do pretty much whatever you want since you should have a solid bases to build off of, I'd start taking pratice tests and seeing where you fall and improving on areas your weak in until the actual test.

Destroyer isn't a magic one man army, its a great tool if you use if correctly.
