yann tierson is pretty good for studying.. he made the amelie soundtrack, but he has written many other instrumental albums that sound entirely different.

but i usually listen to downtempo/ambient/jazzy electronic while studying, sometimes calm jazz.. i make playlists of tracks that are really mellow.. i use compilations as a starting point for finding tracks and artists that are mellow enough to study to..

i also like to study to string tribute albums to artists like U2, radiohead, led zeppelin, etc.. because they are very calm and the songs are familiar...

heck yeah. download iTunes and check out the radio section. There's a good selection of stations in the "ambient" and "electronica" categories that you would probably like.

Paul Oakenfold... anything in that genre. 👍

Phish, Grateful Dead, Jerry, anything with a nice long groove

garden state soundtrack, death cab, tv on the radio...........

i think i have a thing for sexy guys who play the guitar.

all i have listened to lately is-

the arcade fire - funeral

I wish we went to the same school! Then I could play love songs for you.

I always listen to folk music when I study.

if you guys were playing the guitar for me i don't think i'd be getting much studying done..................

Are you hot?

Can't concentrate with music, can only concentrate in a library with other people around making a slight amount noise (i.e. I can't concentrate in complete silence either).

Jazz, jazz, and more jazz.

(Stan Getz, Joshua Redman, Miles Davis, Billie Holliday)

i study alot in coffee shops so whatever they're playing is fine

at home, light classical music 🙂

when i was studying for step 1 I listened to a lot of sade, toni braxton, and prince. Nothing like some quality R&B to get me in the mood ... for memorizing Path ...

Excellent choice, very calming. Great movie, even better books. I've probably read Dune 3 or 4 times and I will probably be finishing up Children of Dune for the first time tonight. You have to have something for stress relief in school.

I have tried to study with friends but, like you all, they like to have music on when they study. I can't concentrate unless there is complete silence...maybe I have ADD.

I like it really quiet too.

If the house or library is really noisy, then I can study to classical music played really low, but there must be NO voices.

I usually listen to one of Live365's classical stations, which has a nice mix of everything.

-=MostlyClassical=- (an internet radio station). Go to shoutcast.com and look in the classical genre. That's pretty much what I listen to.

i think i woke my apartment complex cuz i was laughing sooo hard. just kididn lilmo. much love to ya. but seriously i suggest anything without english lyrics. sigur ros, mogwai, lemon jelly, pele, zero 7, avalanches, rjd2 are all pretty good.

I prefer Dismemberment Plan for any studying I have to do, but I prefer Dismemberment Plan for most anything.

RJD2 is nice too. 😎

Gregorian chant or "Sounds of Nature" on Shoutcast.

generally anything i like but isnt too engaging. example: foo fighters. "everlong" is their only song of theirs im a huge fan of, so most of their music is along the veins that i like and engaging enough to amp up my other senses, but not so much that i cant study.

The angrier the better...... NIN, Rage, Corn, Old Metallica

Definitely Jazz. Lots of Jazz. Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Bela Fleck, John Coltrane.

Occasionally some classical as well

So far this semester, Bob Dylan is getting alot of playtime during study hours. All of music is great, but the pre-electric stuff (Times are a Changin', etc) is better for studying too. Listening to too much his electric albums gets my going too much.

I also LOVE Dylan, but I can't study to music with words. I'll start singing, which definitely doesn't help with studying. Not to mention, I hear "boo's" from everyone in the library.

arcade fire? dismemberment plan? how trendy!

As much as I love music, I just can't concentrate if its on when I'm studying.

Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, Rachmaninov, Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Berlioz, Pearl Jam, Radiohead in no particular order

Sinatra. Studying sucks, hard, but it is great to listen to a guy that says he's got the world on a string (when I feel like the world has me on a string). His voice is nice a mellow, and there is a good mix of upbeat songs that almost bring a smile to my face in the midst of studying.

👍 one of my favorite things to study to. unfortunately, i'm finding i have to study away from my computer b/c it's way too tempting to goof around on SDN instead of actually studying. 🙁

My study group likes quite...... for me, the more noise, the better. When there is a lot going on in the background, I go complete 'tunel vision', but when quite, I notice evey little movement.

[DJ Tiesto man I love this guys stuff. His 2 day Concert this past weekend was phenominal Probably cost me my grade in Peds..oh but so worth it.

Gotta have upbeat music with melodies while I study to keep myself energized and awake. Tiesto's trance music is just what the doctor ordered.

My friend is a Tiesto nut.

I "discovered" Iron and Wine this week. Such soothing melodies that calm me after a long session, especially after this week of trying to do the hand when our bodies arm and hands are curled up in a really stiff rigor mortis which makes it almost impossible to do the dissections without extreme patience.. further compounded by the fact everything is REALLY REALLY superficial.

Hey guys, you got some good taste in guitarists. Are you guys all guitarists too?? I've been playing classical for 15 years now.

I think Paco, Al, and John rip hard. Although, there is something to be desired when it comes to their music in general. It all sounds like the fusion jazz ****, although, they have produced few gems like Mediterranean Sundance and Orient Blue.

I like guitar solo's too, but they get pretty boring after awhile. Paco Pena is alright, he's not that great. I love Ottmar Liebert for his musicality and music, although he's not technically accomplished. I think Justin King is a HOT guitarist; he's probably the only exciting guitarist I find out there now. As for other acoustic guitarists, I like Leo Kottke, and for classical guitarists, my favorites are David Russell, and Paul Galbraith for their tone, musicality, and overall technique.

If I want to get my mind blown by unbelievable technique, I like Phillip Hii, and Eliot Fisk for classical, Paco de Lucia for flamenco, Al Di Meola and John Mclaughlin for jazz, and Satchmo for electric.

Okay yall.

Anyone who has heard the music I'm about to recommend MUST agree with me. It's considered the best trance CD ever created. It's "chill-out ambient" progressive trance. All the eleven tracks on this CD blend into one single sound. I used to only listen to grunge (alice in chains, stp, nirvana) but this stuff is good. Definately give it a try. It's calming and will get you into a rhythm, I bust it when I write essays and read boooks.

ALBUM: Northern Exposure Vol 1.
Artist: Sasha and John Digweed

You must DL the whole cd. Some of the songs include "Kites", and "raincry". Make sure to get Vol 1.

great to hear of another classical guitarist out there.....I've been playing for about 7 years now. All of the guitarists you mentioned are top-notch, but I gotta stick up for my man Paco Pena....you should give him a little more credit!!!! The work he does with his dance company is truely amazing....its one thing to be a lightning fast flamenco soloist, but its another thing to be able to orchestrate the traditional, structured style of flamenco with dancers, percussionists, etc. He has a very unique technique which has a very special place in my heart, especially because his his book "Toques Flamencos" was the book that got me started on flamenco guitar!!!!!!!!!!

None the less man, viva el arte, and lets bust out as much rasgueado as possible. PM me if you have any cool websites to check out.......i have a few that I'll probably PM you with latah
