Hi, I?ve seen the post about study schedules, but I think all those are pretty much geared towards American medical graduates. Has anyone found schedules for IMG?s? I am looking for something at least 6 weeks long.
thanks!

Just wondering why there'd be a difference in schedule since it's for the same test? Gotta know the same stuff, right? Just curious 🙂

Hi,
What type of IMG are you talking about? Someone who is already a doc and trying to get to the US or someone whose in med school now? For a carib person (like myself who just finished 2nd year) I really don't think you have to approach it any differently than the standard US student if you've done well and kept up with everything throughout. As Stringbean said its the same material. Having just taken it (today) I really don't feel like anything more than 4-5 weeks is necessary. If you're interested in a detailed schedule I'd be more than happy to tell you how I apporached it, let me know.

Most IMG's, as far as I know, have been through clinicals and are far removed from the basic science minutia that is required for Step 1. They usually take Step 1 and 2 at or near the same time (some take 2 before 1) and they need both to match.

Imagine taking step 1 at the end of the fourth year. I dont think I could do it.

I'm not feeling like I can do it now (2 days left :scared: )... nevermind 2 years from now 😱

Thanks for the explanation Idio! 🙂

Students who graduate from foreign med. schools are not prepared for the USMLE in the same way that US students are. That is the main difference. The material might be the same, but the format of presentation and the teaching methods are quite different. We have to do mostly independent work to teach ourselves the material. The Caribbean schools might be a little more geared toward USMLE style teaching though. Anyway, regardless, international med. students-graduates need more time for preparation for the USMLE, in general. Yes, the material that needs to be studied is the same, but in general, we do need more time.
If anyone knows of a good study schedule for international med. students, please inform me.
Thanks!

Ive been thinking about this. Since I am preparing to take the exam in late febuary.
I haven't exactly decided on a schedule yet. At Ross, we have this 5th semester of clinical preperation and advaned physical exam techniques and 20+ hours spent at clinical sites per week.

It lasts about 9 weeks. It'll be hard to do a lot of studying during then. But I plan on doing a lot of path in there. Then I'll get ~6 weeks at home. Where I want to go back with my path system wise and integrade pharm and physio into it. Then I'll be attending falcon reviews in early january I think.

Hopefully I can integrate some anatomy, biochem, neuro and genetics as it fits into path.
