Is there any of you who perhaps have afternoon classes or a bit later than 8 in the morning and tend to study late at nites? I have class everyday from 1-5 with the exception of one day. I am trying to see if it is better that I stay up in the nites..late nites since it seems so much more concentrated with no one aruond and kinda sleep in late or sleep after class? Any of you do craZy tings like that? Let me hear some feedback. Thanks

I had this schedule last semster. I started studying by 8am, went to class from 1-5pm, then kept on studying until 11pm or 12.

I'm trying to figure out how to schedule my studying myself. As a result of some unique circumstances I will only have gross anatomy from 1-5 until the end of this semester (and ICM from 1-4 on Wednesdays).

I've considered two possibilites. Waking up early (5 AM) and getting a workout and some studying in before 1 PM, then studying until about 9:00 after lab.

The other scenario would be waking up around 8 or 9, getting a workout in, going to class and then studying until midnight or 1 AM before going to bed.

BTW Swampfox, cool handle. My roommate is a direct descendant of Francis Marion. It's his great-great-great grandfather I believe.

Conceptual and reasoning skills in the morning. Memorization at night.

I think this is going to depend on what kind of learner YOU are. For example, I study best in the morning and basically retain nothing that I look at past 8 pm. This has forced me to skip lecture a lot in order to catch up on material (I have class 8-12 everyday). I also try to get in as much studying as possible in the afternoon and stop by around 5 or 6 in the evening most nights unless something is due. But I know plenty of people that wait to study until the evening and stay up late. I think you just need to spend a bit of time figuring out what works best for you.

trying to figure this out still.

Especially with anatomy these days. Our anatomy professors are horrible, so Im trying to study on my own during class. But Im not the best day learner and Im becoming exhausted at night now for some reason.

Do you even have to study at Ross "Medical" school?

wow, I saw your post and didn't think too much about it until i saw your signature----'do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. It is funny when people's signatures kind of conflict with their posts.

PS---i'm really not trying to criticize you, it's just something i found interesting.

I had a schedule like that a couple years ago and it was the best schedule i ever had in college. Classes started at around 1pm, so i would study when my roommates when to bed (i had many roommates so i couldn't really get stuff done in the day) and then i would go to bed at 5 or 6am, and sleep in till noon. It was great! Needless to say, when i had a more normal schedule the next semester, i found it almost impossible to get up for my 8am classes.

uhhhh "yeah"

Honestly, they might have to study more than some schools in the US.

After reading some of the recent reports on how sleep affects our memories, I think studying at night before we sleep helps us better retain the information.

I think the report you cite shows you need a long sleep for memory retention. It does not support what you suggest.

In general, I think different styles work for different people.
