Hi I've just been wondering something for a long time after reading posts on here and I need to know!

How are people studying for step 1 for more than 4-6 weeks? I've seen posts with people studying devoted to Step 1 for like 7, 8, 9 weeks or more. are these people not from the USA or something? I know my USA med school gives us a max of 6 weeks, but most people only take 4.

Thanks !

Seems like schools get out at completely different times and start rotations at different times, so I think there is a large variability. But, ya, the people studying months for step 1 generally seem to be the caribbean medical students/FMG.

Double posting to add that my school gives us like 3-4 weeks for step 1 studying and 15% of the class ahead of us failed step 1. Soooo, wish us luck! I don't see our pass rate improving this year.

wow yeah good luck !!

for what it's worth, i've heard from upperclassmen here and from doctors from other medical schools too that 4 weeks is the ideal amount of time... and that most people burn out after that time.

yea it varies widely by U.S. school too....they used to give the 2nd years 8 weeks at my school, but they shorted it to 6 weeks w/ my year.
