Hey guys,

I'm fairly new on here and I was looking for some advice/suggestions to go about studying for the DAT. I plan to take it in early June so that I have enough time to retake it before school starts up again in the fall (provided I don't do well enough the first time). This was the first week of the semester and from now until the first week in May I will have a lot of schoolwork to do and my own reading/studying.

What are some good ways to go about studying for the DAT during this time? I bought the Barron's AP Bio book and the DAT Destroyer, but I don't know where to start. Should I just go through the problems in the Destroyer and look up the answers after, study first then do it, buy additional books, etc?

Thanks A LOT for any help 🙂

Don't do Destroyer until you have your basic biology down. The problem with Destroyer is that it becomes tempting to merely memorize the facts given in the solutions instead of understanding the context. I'd recommend getting another biology book (textbook or guide) so you can get more than one explanation of certain ideas. Also, do a search on this forum; there has been numerous identical threads to this recently.

Yeah I realized that after I wrote the thread. I do have an AP Bio book, so I guess I should go through that first. My situation may be different than others though, since my extra time is pretty limited until mid May, so I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about this yet.

Thanks though

Should I read through materials on all of the subjects first though, or could I actually start taking practice tests/questions

Read the stuff and understand everything before taking the tests. Last few months start testing yourself. If you start taking the practice tests right now, you wont do well and that will make you feel bad.

Good point, thanks. I have 2 AP Bio books (Cliffs and Barron's), DAT Destroyer, Kaplan Blue Book, my old organic chem textbook, and old notes from everything. Any thoughts on where to start? I know it's a lot of questions, but I just don't want to do anything that isn't productive because my time is somewhat limited. Thanks again! 🙂

I started general chem coz thats my weakest subject and spent a long time on it. The rest was easy coz I understood everything. You should know everything in the Kaplan book so start from there. It basically goes over everything you need to know for the exam.
