Hey guys so I just recieved crack the dat, kaplan, an ap biology book and DAT destroyer. I was wondering if anyone could explain how they started? I still have over three months before I take the DAT and plan to start asap. I feel so scared and overwhelmed and was hoping anyone could give me some insight. Thanks guys!

This thread should be under 'DAT Discussions' but I started studying the week following the end of Spring quarter. I started out following dentalWorks study schedule, and followed it very strictly for a week. After that week, I realized that when I read the KBB and Cliffs fast for the first time, and second time take notes, it was the same to me as if I just took notes on the first time. It took up a lot of my time and I didn't benefit as much as I felt like I should, so I immediately stopped doing the schedule's method of reading twice. I read once and took notes instead. Whenever a topic was extremely new and I didn't understand, I would watch a YouTube video. I'm a very visual learner and when I watch videos I can remember material a lot better. Special shoutout to Khanacademy, Craig Savage, and Bozeman Science. After I finished watching Chad's videos and doing quizzes according to dentalWorks' schedule, I started doing DAT Destroyer. DAT Destroyer was overkill (but in a good way). I then started to do DAT Destroyer, which took me around 2 weeks, because I did it at different pace than the schedule. I believe that the most important part of studying is recognizing your own needs and not to always follow the schedule letter by letter. The second time I went through DAT Destroyer, it only took me a week. During this second round of DAT Destroyer, I followed Ahri's schedule more. This is also when I started to do Bootcamp. As the test got closer, I took the 2007 exam, and then the 2009 3 days before. As my studying started getting closer to exam date, at times I felt three months felt too long to be studying for it. But then, I take more time in studying, and the initial preparatory period was beneficial to my biology, organic chem, and chemistry review.

Wow thank you so much for such an in depth response! That really helped me. Did you feel extremely overwhelmed at first? Is it normal to feel like you don't know where to start? Thank you!

Haha I just copied it from my breakdown. Sometimes I felt overwhelmed because studying for a pre professional exam for the first time can be pretty intimidating, but you get the hang of it. You can click my breakdown in my signature and read more about the materials. I suggest you search up glimmer's DAT breakdown collection and you'll get a lot of reviews from everyone

Hey dude i pretty much have the same material as you do, for bio i started reading the ap bio cliff notes, and after that i moved on to the Feralis bio file from bootcamp(free). Those two is all you need to brush up on your bio.
For PAT, if youre really bad at it start off with crack the DAT because they have a lot of videos showing techniques etc. After you got the technique down buy bootcamp because there they have a generator for unlimited questions for PAT.
Use kaplan to brush up on orgo and chem
And for last. Destroyer is your bible for all the subjects. This is my number one DAT material. I went through it once and marked (Redo) for the ones i got wrong. After going through the whole book i went back to my material and started rereading all my notes etc., in a few weeks you should come back to the Destroyer and redo only the (redo problems). Make sure to read the explanations because they dont get better than that. If you are still getting the questions wrong the second time try understanding the explanation in the back, most likely its a concept question. 3 weeks before your exam I would redo the whole book once again just to feel prepared for whats coming. Destroy the destroyer and youll destroy the DAT.
also make sure to get the mATH DESTORYER,, all you need for math is that, it gives you around 16 exams with explanations, plenty of practice.
Peace.
