I am a new MS 1, .....beginning to think of my step 1 exam from day one...I know, but no- I am not an overachiever, I just want to set my rhythm right. I would like to get advice from you , are there any online resources I could buy to provide me with practice questions, as I take and practice for regular med school exams, and also questions that I could use as practice for the USMLE Step 1. so, basically, I hear about UW, FA, are these online resources I can subscribe to and get a bunch of practice Qs, Which ones do you recommend and how do I get them or how much do they cost.

Thanks a bunch.

It's time-consuming, but if you start early there should be enough time

That is what I would say, too. Just try to do topics and you learn them in class and keep up with the questions and you'll be golden. Then second year you can do some Uworld.

I would recommend none of these.

You're an M1. Your goal is learn the material well this year and not be so concerned with Step 1. More importantly, you need to learn an efficient way of studying that works for you. Step 1 is almost 2 years away -- any Step 1 prep that you do now will likely be forgotten by then. Plus, M1 material is pretty low-yield (with the exception of physiology). However, getting a thorough understanding of the material you'll learn this year will set you up to be very successful M2 year, where the material is far more clinically relevant and much more high-yield for Step 1. There are resources out there with practice questions for physio (the Guyton and Hall review book), anatomy (the UMich website), etc. Use those to reinforce what you learn and leave things geared specifically for Step 1 until next year. I can't comment on Firecracker (?) since myself and no one I know used it.

Firecracker used to be Gunner Training... that's what I used for part of M2 to study for classes. It was okay, but it got really overwhelming after a while.

Overall, I agree, though. Study for your classes. If you really, really want to try some practice questions, get an old Kaplan Qbook and run through some of the relevant questions in there, but don't waste UW for M1.
