So far I've taken the NBME free exam and NBME 3. I didn't count exactly, but I noticed that there are very few stat questions. Truthfully, although I'm good with numbers for some reason I never liked stats. So for those of you in the same boat (don't like stats), is it worth spending time learning this stuff if there's only 1-2 questions per section max and some of them are the easy ones like specificity calculations? I'd think that even after not studying for it specifically you probably can get 25% of them correctly.

In addition, some of these calculations take time.
Just wondering what people think.

I think it's one of the most high yield topics out there.

They only test about 25 principles and formulas (you should be able to learn the basics in half a day), and even 1 question/block is 2% of the test. If all questions are weighted evenly, that's an easy 5-7 points added to your score vs. if you just guessed.

There shouldn't be any difficult calculations.

the statistics questions on the USMLE are mostly applications of basic concepts. I think it is worth your time to at least go over the basics. Why miss a few easy questions when with little effort you could get them right?

I think it's quite useful to be comfortable with all the concepts and calculations. HY Biostatics is short and sweet and fairly useful. How long you spend will probably depend on your background with statistics, but even if you never took courses in it in undergrad, the concepts are so basic, you could fly through the back in a few hours. Seems like a good trade-off for some guaranteed questions that a short amount of studying will almost certainly pay off with right answers.
