I have my last final (Anatomy) coming up in less than 2 weeks (23rd to be more precise) and then I'll be done with the first year 🙂.

I would really appreciate if anyone could give me tips as to how to concentrate and study for more than 10 hours a day. I don't know why I'm not able to sit for so long (however, I tend to always do it a week before the final which is a really bad approach). Do you use any sort of energy drinks to keep your fresh?

What study techniques have helped you study for the finals...especially the last final because people usually tend to get too excited and not study much for the last final exam as they realize they're almost done.

Thank you very much guys

The idea is NOT to sit for long periods of time. Your concentration efficiency drops precipitously the longer you sit. Most folks have about a 50-minute attention span. Study 50 minutes out of each hour and take a 10-minute break. Unless you are on a total roll with something, stop and get a drink of water; walk around; look at some different scenery rather than you book.

Also, if you can study where you have a large whiteboard, you can diagram your structures which makes your learning more efficient and active. Most libraries have group study rooms with white boards. You can also use it to makes lists that you can cross off as you get things covered. This is also a good way to review with a group too.

Rather than try to use chemicals (caffeine included because it makes you dehydrated and tired), break up your material and cross things off as you review them. Go for three passes with each pass covering more material until you have everything done.

Good luck on your test.

just curious what school you are at that is still in session in early-mid July. why so late?

This happened to me as we approached the final block of exams. I don't know if it will help you, but it helped me. CHANGE YOUR STUDY SPOT. Do not try to use the place you used all year. I studied at school for most of the year. So around the finish line I studied at cafes. I also, pushed a big armchair into my room and studied there (now this option was only about 70 percent efficient, but much better than doing NOTHING in my old spot). Make realistic checklists of what you wish to accomplish for the day. Check it off as you go. It may seem like you haven't done much, but if you look at a list and see things disappearing, trust me it helps. When all else fails, give in to a real break. If 10 minute breaks aren't working, take 30. Watch your favorite sit com every 2 hours or so. Whatever you do, make sure that the time you ARE actually studying is worth it. If that means more breaks, then so be it. It's much worse to be 'pretending' to study for 10 hours, than to really study for 5, and actually break for 5 hours. Cheers and good luck.

Hey there ChickFingaz, thanks for the advice...sounds very logical and effective. I shall try it out. As of now, I've already made my checklists and started checking things off. I've started slogging (although I wasted the past week and didn't get much done). I guess the best technique is to start studying for things early and just keep myself focussed...thanks again everyone.... 🙂
