Hello everyone, I am a non-traditional student who is finishing up the last semester of required pre-reqs, physics II, orgo II, and Bio II this semester. I plan on taking the MCAT late may, or june at the latest in hopes to applying for the 2013 cycle. I was wondering what would be a good way to study for the MCAT while finishing this coursework? Also, is a month, month in a half fully devoted to MCAT studying enough to do well (30+) Sorry if its been stated in the past and thanks for any advice.

I'm in the exact same boat as you... non-trad, finishing up o-chem 2 and physics 2 and applying for 2013. So I'd love to hear what others have to say... I know that I will be writing a rough draft for my personal statement this week before the semester starts, which I know I'll revise later. But getting something small out of the way, or a start will help in giving me more time later to study. I'm planning on spending about an hour a day studying for the MCAT for the next month then will be picking up big time in March. I'm planning on taking the MCAT in June just because I have to take a May-mester class after I graduate which would suck having to take that and worry about the MCAT during that class.

Good luck to you though and I'll check back in on this post later.

You guys are not alone. I too am a non-trad scheduled to take the MCAT in late May but luckily I only have Orgo II to take this semester. I'm working and volunteering at a hospital as well but my hours are very flexible so I plan on studying 4-5 hours per day. I think we all know what kind of challenge we have ahead of us so we have to create a plan and stick to it.

My experience with Physics II was that it was an extremely easy class so I hope your experiences are the same and that should lighten the load for you guys. My original plan was to take Orgo I and Bio II last semester while studying to take the MCAT in February but I simply did not have time to study with those two classes and work. To the OP, Bio II was extremely time consuming for me. Your experience may be different because Bio II is regarded as the most difficult lower division science course in my school but it certainly took up a lot of my time and although I didn't think it was particularly difficult there was a lot of memorization in my class that demanded hours of studying and consumed my weekends.

I think that fully devoting a month and a half fully to MCAT studying should be okay after you've been studying part-time throughout the semester. People have dedicated less in total and done well but everyone's different. Pace yourself and stick to a schedule and see how you feel a few weeks before your MCAT. Definitely don't take it if you're not feeling prepared at that time but for you should prepare as if you have to sit for the exam.

Good luck to all of us!

I'm in the same boat!!! I'm finishing up Physics II and O Chem II!! and starting Kaplan review course next month.

Same boat, taking Physics 2 and O-chem 1 this semester, finishing May 9th, MCAT mAY 31ST.

Won't have O-chem 2 :/

You guys suck! haha jk but what books/methods are you using to keep on track w/ the MCAT studying while concurrently taking "tougher" courses? I got all of the EK material for free thanks to a friend but am still worried this is no where near enough

How do you guys study topics you haven't learnt yet? Do you read the mcat version before you learn the chaptyer in class or wait till after?
