My friend here in the UK was asking me about whether she could move to the USA after studying pharmacy here. She thought I would know since I am American and I worked as a tech there, but I have absolutely no idea how that would work. Does anyone here?

I'm not real clear about your "here" & "there". Is she obtaining her pharmacy degree in the UK or is she on a visa here & obtaining her pharmacy degree in the US?

If she is a US graduate, she takes her licensing examinations just like any US graduate.

If she is a foreign graduate, she follows the foreign graduate route, which has been spoken about many times on these forums. It all depends on the state in which she wants to practice. Fifty states = fifty different rules of licensure.

Some states have easy & fast processes - mine (CA) does not.

She needs to be very careful about how long her course of study is in the UK. The rules changed after Jan 2003 - there is a discussion in the licensure forum at the top of this forum. A whole lot of folks got "burned" when they pursued a shorter course, at least in Australia & New Zealand, then tried to come here. Essentially, they had to redo their education.

So...depending on how far along she is in her education, she may be able to finish in the UK & come here as a foreign graduate or she may have to start all over.

Let me know if you can't find the threads....

Thanks. I meant "here" as in "here in the UK"... but anyway, I found the thread you were talking about, thanks. She is just starting and I doubt she has made any solid decisions, but she seems like the career student type, so I would assume she is going for her PharmD. I emailed her the link to that thread. Thanks again.
