Thought I'd see what you psych savants had to say.

Lately I have started stuttering. I never used to stutter before (just a little when I was a kid, but I know that is not too uncommon) but lately when I am stressed or anxious, or after drinking more than a beer or two, increasingly I find myself stuttering. Not the t-t-t- stuck on one part of a word but rather words just won't come out. It's like there is some mental block that I have to overcome. It's really weird. And of course, after that happens once there is an anticapatory anxiety that makes it more likely to happen again.

Speaking slowly and clearly articulating things seems to work at times, but I don't stutter enough that that is something I need to do daily or even weekly. I am living overseas now and its weird but I only stutter in English; it has never happened to me in Japanese.

Any advice?

I get exactly the same thing, although I had forgotten about it as I haven't stuttered in a while now...

It happens to me when (a) I'm absolutely bursting to say alot of things at once or want to get the information out as quickly as possible and am in a rather euphoric mood or (b) when I'm interupting someone, for example if a group of people are talking amongst themselves and I want to join the conversation.

One thing that fascinates me is that I always used to find myself stuttering on 'and'... I would say 'and' but have to repeat it again even though it had already been said... like I was trying to push a ball up a hill but it keeps falling back down, so I have to say it SLOWLY with great F O R C E 😉

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is relieving to hear from others in a similar predicament.

The less I think about it the less it's there; kind of a fear of being afraid of stuttering, if that makes any sense.

Once again, thanks.
