I've searched around on the forum, but I'm having a hard time finding the precise information I need. Has anyone been accepted to an SMP program with a GPA that is below 3.0? Most of the programs I've looked at state a 3.0 as an admission requirement, and have an even higher average for those they accept. I'm looking for any sort of personal experiences from someone who has been in the same situation as me. Or, any sort of advice in general, I suppose!

If your MCAT is good (27+) and you have extracirriculars, you have a decent chance. It really depends if your GPA is the only thing holding you back. Ive been accepted to a program (and hopefully more to come) this year with a sub 3.0 GPA. My BCMP is something horrible like 2.5 (I can thank quantum & thermo for that). My non science is around 3.3, with my overall being below 3.0. I have a good MCAT score, great ECs, and good recs. Those all definatley helped.

Enigma, I am another example of someone who was accepted. I had a sub 3.0 cume and BCPM (depending on how it was calculated). I was accepted to G-town's SMP. I think most programs will consider you if you are below a 3.0, as long as there is a good reason for you being there, and you have other aspects of your application that really demonstrate that you are a strong student (ie, a good MCAT).

I also am one of those under 3.0 gpas by amcas, while my more recent coursework is higher, it didn't make a dent in my overall GPA. I have been accepted to Barry's 2 year program and to the UMDNJ masters. I am still on "hold" at G'town. If G'twon does accept me I will go there, otherwise I am heading to NJ. Just so you know my MCAT was only a 28Q, so it wasn't that spectacular. Hope that helps! Marcia

I am not applaying to SMP, but I am applying to Loma Linda's post bac in biomedical science to get into dental school. So, if I am applying with a less then great undergrad gpa(2.9ish), and a 3.256 and a masters in bio, do you think it is almost a sure thing. I am taking the long road, bacelor, post bac, masters, but if it gets me to my goal, i dont care, . any thought?

thanks for all the feedback everyone! It's very encouraging to have people say from personal experience that it can be done. I love SDN 😍
