I am planning on submitting my application with a re-take for a course in progress, but I am wondering how will my GPA be calculated?

I want to submit my app in June, but I will be re-taking a course on my transcript in July.

I currently have a B- for an upper level bio course - will it be calculated in with my current GPA or will it be left blank with my re-take added on later?

It will be calculated with your current GPA. It won't update until your new grades come in to replace it during the academic update period of AACOMAS.

Ah, thanks for clearing this up.

could you explain this a little bit because I think it might actually answer my question as well. And you seem more knowledgeable than I am.

I am taking some retakes, Cell Biology (C) and Organic Chemistry 2 (B-) as well as two extra courses this summer. These grades won't come in till late July, so how will the schools update my GPA when I send the transcripts in around now? Should I wait till I get the new grades?

The caveat is that this will only work if you take courses from the same institution you're going to repeat your courses from.

If you're taking it from a different institution, I would recommend to wait it out before you submit if it increases your GPA significantly. However, at this point, I would just wait until all your grades come back before submitting your application. You want schools to see your best academic record.

As a tip, I STRONGLY recommend reading the AACOMAS instructions all throughout in the link I provided above. It will answer all your questions.

okay. the AACOMAS website doesn't work on my computer for some raisin, so I had to view on my phone. Why don't they have an academic update time frame in August? That would make the most sense.
But thank you for the response.

Try a different browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) To answer your question, I am not sure. I don't make up the rules, and AACOMAS has always been in "beta" mode for everyone. To be safe, I always recommend submitting the best possible application the first time and ASAP once you get your grades. It also depends on how much of a difference your GPA will be. If there's very little change, then you can apply early. If the change is significant, then I would wait and submit everything later together.

I've heard some major horror stories from AACOMAS for some applicants about grade replacement.
