I submitted a secondary to Ros Frank with the name of another school in it. I want to die.

Should I email/call them and apologize for this rather grave/inexcusable error? I absolutely tailored the entire secondary to the school's mission and everryyything but I just mention "Harvard" where "Rosalind Franklin" should've gone. One instance.

Ugh shoot me 🙂

I don't think you can undo that error.

How did you tailor your secondaries to Rosalind Franklin and accidentally mention Harvard? were you taking your responses to Harvard secondaries and modifying them?

Who cares about Rosy Frank when you're going to harvard 😎

You know, this reminds me of my graduation from undergrad. There was some regent or provost or some such official in the bureaucracy of my university's system who spoke at length. It was clear she hadn't prepared her remarks, and kind of rambled on about how this was the "best school, in the best city, in the best state, in the best country, on the best planet..." or something silly like that. The climax came when she referred repeatedly to my school, Texas A&M (>50,000 students, flagship of the system) as "Texas A&M Texarkana" (backwater college of under 2000 students). According to Dad, the parents were on the verge of rioting in the stands.

Long story short, we thought she was ridiculous ("Do you know what city you're in? How did you even get here today?") and I imagine that Rosalind Franklin will think more or less the same of you. Just speculating.

Yeah, you probably should have proofread your secondary before sending it in and not after...

Oh well -- I don't think there's much you can do now. Hopefully they see the mistake enough to not put too much weight on it! Of course they know that application essays are often recycled, so as long as you did a good job actually tailoring the rest of the essay to them it should be fine.

Very small chance they won't notice... I guess? I wouldn't bring more attention to it by calling.

Cross this school off your list. Unless you get lucky (e.g., a generous reader), you're likely not going to get in here.

Try applying to another school in lieu of this one. Maybe one with comparable curricula, selectivity, geography, etc. Good luck!

Make up a lie. You really meant to say "the Harvard of North Chicago."

That sucks dude. RF is a really stupid secondary, I hope you didn't waste a ton of time on it.

The best would be if they interviewed you to ask you about it in person.

I wish schools were more forgiving with these types of errors, because they do happen, especially to qualified applicants.

When an applicant applies to numerous schools, aren't you supposed to claim that they are all your top choices?

Secondly, if everyone was so truthful throughout the process, then schools would never have to deal with applicants denying acceptances. But clearly that's not the case.

My cousin submitted to Connetictut a few days ago and accidentally left the Cornell name in his secondary for the why school essay, got an interview 2 days later lulz

Careful attention to detail is very important for doctors. If you write up a prescription but put the wrong drug name, that could seriously harm a patient. Or if you forget to change the dosage amount for a medicine via IV, or accidentally do something wrong during surgery, etc.

Point is that OP was seemingly careless and didn't pay attention to details, and if that carries over to his/her career as a physician, the school might not want to admit such a student. I agree that the essays are extremely fake and superficial, but we still ought to proofread it carefully. That mistake isn't too hard to catch.

It won't hurt for you to call first thing on Monday and apologize.

My pre-med adviser told me that this happened to a student before, but for Harvard. She accidentally put Yale in her Harvard secondary and called as soon as she realized. Harvard granted her an interview in the end...unfortunately they also remembered her as the girl who put Yale in the secondary.

Better to be remembered as the girl who put Yale in the secondary than not to be remembered. People look for ways to make their app stand out..well OP, you nailed it.

I agree with the people saying it can't hurt to apologize. If I were on an ADCOM, I'd be impressed that you had the balls to acknowledge it. Catching a mistake and doing something to correct it (even when probably futile) is better than doing nothing, I think.

I would write a sincere email expressing your interest in the school and apologizing for the mistake, in hopes that it finds its way into your file so that the ADCOM sees it when they review you. It's a hail Mary pass, but you never know.

If they have an application update feature, may be good to include it there too so the apology is attached to your file.

OP, I feel you dude.
I copied and pasted the same writing draft to two different questions on my Rush app.

You're not alone. Let's sink together 😳
Oh wait, you're shooting for Harvard 😡😡😡
