I am taking the June MCAT so I don't know which schools I would be competitive at (and should apply to). I know that you can submit your app to just one school, which will ensure that AMCAS can verify it, etc.

Then, when I add new schools, AMCAS will send the app. out very quickly.

However, what if I want to apply to the MD/PhD program for the "additional schools." Since I would have to write two additional essays, will that mean that my app. will have to be re-verified?

I ask because this will enable me to get some extra time to write these two additional essays.

I'm not even sure if this part is true. I'm not sure that it's not true either, but in general, if you make a change, it seems like AMCAS is going to have to take time to process it. And it will take more time to process than you'd ever believe. My guess is that you haven't stumbled on some great shortcut here; that AMCAS will reprocess your application in queue for fairness sake.

But again, I'm not exactly sure what they'd do. One way to find out, I suppose - best of luck with it.

You are correct, once you're verified and you add another school, the new school will get your app within a day or two.

Interesting question about the MD/PhD though... I'm pretty sure that the answer is no, they won't need to verify it again, since verification consists of verifying your grades only.

I believe this is true, but I haven't tried this out myself.

You can submit your AMCAS with just 1 school. This allows your AMCAS to be "verified", where they check your transcript against your grades that you manually typed out. Once your AMCAS is verified, it can be transmitted to the schools.

If you add more schools later, AMCAS will transmit them to your new schools as soon as possible, without needing to re-verify it.

However, I'm not sure what the rules are about adding more schools MD/PhD when your original submission was MD Only. Why not just apply to a MD/PhD program as your "1 school" initially?

Well, I figured by not applying to MD/PhD program initially, I would have more time for the two additional essays required by the MD/PhD portion.

I *think* that once you submit, you're not allowed to modify anything anymore, besides adding more schools. I would ask on the MD/PhD forum about this, but I would assume that you'd have to finish all the MD/PhD essays before initially submitting.

I did exactly what you are talking about. Submitted with 1 school MD only, took the MCAT again, filled out the MD/PhD essays, submitted again.

The schools that I added the second go round got my full application very, very quickly (1-2 days). AMCAS doesn't verify your essays, but you need to have a school marked MD/PhD to have access to those two essays. You'll see that it works magically exactly as you want to do it.

Just for clarification, when you say "you need to have a school marked MD/PhD to have access to those two essays," you mean that after AMCAS verified, and while adding additional schools, you checked off "MD/PhD" correct?

Thanks for the tip, btw. Thanks a LOT actually lol.
