Hi everyone, I'm so sorry to take up space on the board when you're all probably sick of these questions. It just suddenly occurred to me that I have very little idea of how competitive my program list is, but some of my geographical locations seem to be that way. I wonder if you might look at this and tell me whether you think the list is too competitive and that I ought to add more programs to my list, or whether this is enough? My 23 are below:

California:
Stanford
University of California (Irvine)
University of California (San Diego)

I originated from California but forgot to put that as my permanent address when submitting the application. Doh. Oh well.

Boston or Massachusetts
Baystate Medical Center
Beth Israel Deaconess
Boston University
Harvard/Brigham and Women's
Massachusetts General Hospital
St Elizabeth's Medical Center
Tufts-New England
University of Massachusetts

NY
Albert Einstein
Mount Sinai
New York Medical College at St Vincent's Hospital
New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell Campus)
New York University
New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia Campus)
St Luke's-Roosevelt

Philadelphia
Drexel
Thomas Jefferson
University of Pennsylvania

Other
Yale
Duke

--------------------------
Mid-tier medical school, 233 Step 1, should have strong letters, pre-clinical grades average to below average, clinical grades average, honored 2 (maybe 3, don't know yet) anesthesia electives but no other clinical rotations.

I am applying to some of the programs as you are and have 24. I chose several midwest programs, a few in the SW and two on the south. It's itneresting to see you want to stay on the coastal regions. The midwest has some good programs which you may be interested in as well.

I'm guessing you get 18-20 interview offers, and if you go to all of them, be on 15 or so of the rank list. Worst case scenario is 15 interview offers, ranked on 10 list. So in other words you will be fine. By the way, let me know how accurate I am later.

You have some pretty top-notch programs on there. I dont really know how competitive you are, but what is your 'safety' program? Im sure that youll get 10+ interviews and should match, so if there isnt anywhere else you woudl rather go, I wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks for your feedback.

I don't really know how competitive I am either -- possibly better than I think, but maybe not. The weak spot is my grades, and that has been pointed out to me before. I go to a H/P/F school (no high passes) and have very few honors grades.

My school has no anesthesia program (which I'm actually thankful for -- I *want* to leave) so I have no single obvious "safety" chosen. I guess my main question is whether I have ENOUGH "safe" programs on my list. My fiance and I are really hoping to both land jobs in Boston, with Philly and NY being close seconds; my family's from San Francisco which is why I threw Stanford in there as well (rotated at UCSF but decided I wouldn't be happy there, so didn't apply). So I guess we are pretty particular about location in or near a big city and with highly specialized tech jobs for him.

If anyone has any suggestions for good "safe" programs in or around my cities that I should consider adding, please suggest away!

I'm curious what you thought about UCSF since I applied there. You can send me a message if you dont want to give your opinion in an open forum.

There are plenty of safety places there. You will match easily, and probably interview everywhere on your list, with the exception of maybe 1 or 2.

Relax, be prepared and enjoy the process.
