Hey guys, so my first semester as a freshman UG is quickly coming to an end. I am really looking to prepare myself for next semester as well as the semesters to follow so I can be prepared to take the DAT. My plans (as of now, I know things change) are to take the DAT the summer after sophomore year. That being said, I want to make sure I will take all of the courses that would best prepare me. This semester I have Gen Chem I, Intro to cell/molec bio, calc 1, and gen ed. Next semester I have scheduled Gen Chem II, intro to organismic/evolutionary bio, Calc II, and a required first year writing course. Note that I am a chemistry major with a biochemistry concentration. Any comments on the classes I already have planned to take and what I should be looking to take during my sophomore year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks 🙂

All you need for the DAT is:
Intro chem 1/2
Intro bio 1/2
Orgo 1/2

so based on what you have and are planning on doing, your sophomore year just needs to consist of orgo and your set. People say anatomy and biochem and some otherr random classes are recommended but I didn't take any of those and did fine. How you do on the DAT is similar to how you do in those classes, and ultimately the resources used while prepping for the DAT. Say you get an A-/B+ in chemistry, like I did, I think on the DAT your chemistry section should be at least a 20, if not higher, depending on how much work you put in. Good luck

Next year I plan to take orgo 1 & 2, but you wouldn't suggest additional bio courses? And thanks for putting your DAT scores in terms of what you got in the class. Gives me some hope with my A in chem 😛

I second @FloorMatt , I took my DAT right after I finished the Ochem series. The anatomy and biochemistry on the DAT isn't very dense and can be self taught!

I thought Physiology really helped me.
Not many will suggest taking it. If you have to at some point in college like I did, I would take it before.
