I wanted to know if anyone knows of great medical preparatory programs for applicants to want to become more competitive. I found a MED PREP program in SIU but I would have to wait another year to apply. So if anyone knows of a program similar program to the one SIU offers that would be great! Thank you in advance!

The AAMC has a search function where you can narrow down post-bacc programs/SMPs. A few of them have linkage programs to other medical schools so you don't have that awkward year in between.

Thank you plumhill for the helpful info!

MED Prep programs are a subset of a larger category: URM programs. Look at Georgetown GEMS, Wake Forest, and the UCs for other possibilities. There's an old list in this thread, category 5: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=640302

Basically you need to find a program that gives you another shot at science coursework and supports you in mastering the content and in preparing for the MCAT.

Don't be in a hurry to retake the MCAT or to get into med school. It's far more important to root out and fix the issues that limited your MCAT score. In med school there are endless painful difficult hours-long exams, and then you have to take boards the rest of your career.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you Dr. Midlife for the great advice!
