I am trying to work on my personal statement for Dschool applications.....I'm interested in the public health service when I get out of Dschool and I'm currently involved with a lot of community service but I feel like it seems a little cliche to talk about those things since the adcoms probably read that on every application...so I'm a little lost on what I need to say? I geuss i could use a little help....

Start by asking yourself as to why you got interested in dentistry? Highlight any experiences that made you pick dentistry. If you are interested in public health service, list any experiences that pertain to that.

Make a laundry list of experiences and ideas as to why you chose dentistry. Don't worry if some of them tend to be flaky. You'll go over it again and focus on the ones that you can build a strong personal statement discarding the weaker ones. For now list ANY experience that is relevant.

I don't think every application addresses working in public health. That is a field of its own that may be very appealing to the ADCOMs. Most people know why they want to be a dentist... not everyone knows what they want to do in dentistry. 😉

I think mentioning community health is fine as long as you have experiences that can support this. Talk is cheap, so you want to convey your desire through your actions.

I'm also starting my PS, and I think people generally respond more to story time than "I did this, and then I did this." Just my opinion

Thanks Guys....

and yea, I'm trying to make mine as creative as I can....good luck on yours rose...
