Hello everyone. I'm trying to narrow down which schools to apply to in June. I know my stats are low and I should probably just cast a wide net. I'd like to save money if possible since I only have $500 saved so far for apps and if I can avoid a school with a cutoff that I don't meet that would be ideal. Thanks in advance for your advice!

UG sci gpa 3.1 (with retakes)
UG cumulative gpa 3.0
MCAT 26 (7/10/9) Initial MCAT was a 21 -I know 🙁

I have one DO letter, one MD letter, two letters from science professors (organic chem professor and anatomy and physiology professor) and a great letter from my 300 level writing professor.

Hispanic female (Colombian), NY resident. I've been working concomitantly as a chief scribe for an ER physician group and as a paramedic for 5.5 years now. I am 29 years old. I volunteer in an inner city free health clinic. I also do clinical research at our area level I trauma center and teach phlebotomy/EKG technician courses for a local trade school. I would love to be in a rural setting since that fits a lot of my hobbies but hey I'll go wherever they take me!

Here's my list:

Alabama COM
ATSU Missouri
ATSU Arizona
AZCOM (they list their minimum necessary GPA as 2.75)
Burrell COM (new school)
Campbell University SOM
Des Moines COM
PCOM- GA
LECOM- PA
LECOME- FL
LU COM? (I haven't taken biochem yet, will they accept you on terms if you promise to take before starting?)
Lincoln Memorial UCOM
NYIT COM
NOVA
Ohio University Heritage COM
PCOM- PA
Touro COM
UNECOM (Is NY not considered part of New England?)
VCOM
WVSOM
KYCOM

Total: ($35x 20) + $195 = $895 (Ok only a few hundred off from what I have saved so far)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albany Medical College (I know, I know this is a long shot. This is where I work and do research, I feel it would be silly not to give it a try).

SUNY Downstate
SUNY Upstate
University of Buffalo
Stonybrook

Good wide list, but I would take Touro and AZCOM off because they both like higher MCAT scores. Maybe add WCU?

Ok thanks I'll look into both of those schools then. I'm not sure why I didn't have William Carey on my list? I just added it. I couldn't find any info on min MCAT/GPA on their website.

I had highlighted and made a note on my own list about the VCOM campuses because on their website they list a 3.2 min GPA. I appreciate your feedback @DoctorSynthesis

Any advice on applying to low tier MD schools? Would that just be a waste of money?

Edit: can't hurt to try- I'm going to add some low tiers

What is your AMCAS GPA? They don't replace grades. I think the PR schools, Howard, and New Mexico were in your GPA range.

I need to re-calculate it since taking some bost-bacc classes (if they count). It's definitely below 3.0

If you're willing to spend the money, it couldn't hurt to apply to a few MD schools. My stats weren't too far off ours, and I applied to some MD schools and ended up getting accepted to 1. My suggestion is to look at the MSAR and apply to the lower stat schools and/or mission driven schools, especially private ones. Just be aware of schools that accept very few OOS students.

@dkt888 thanks so much for that feedback. I'm going to add a few low tier MD schools and see what happens. If it increases my odds of getting in even slightly then it's money well spent.
