Hello all,

Just finished my freshman year. Went extremely well, I am really proud of myself! So now I have three months of break and want some suggestions as to what I should do over break. I have been regularly volunteering at a local hospital since high school, and still do, as a matter of fact I picked up an extra shift for the summer. And also I volunteer at a research lab at my university and will be working with my mentor on his project this summer as well. So as of right now I will be doing those two things.

Should I add in anything else? What are some suggestions of things I can do to really build myself as a person and explore different ways of giving back?

Thanks,

I might get in touch with a surgeon I shadowed for a little bit during high school and get in some shadowing hours!

Oh this might be random but when I volunteered during junior/senior year summer at the lab I am currently volunteering at, I helped annotate some LARGE data-sets and was actually acknowledged in the final paper. does this hold any weight? Just wondering, I'm sure it doesn't since I was in HS at the time!

Thanks UNMedGa,

Anyone else want to share any summer activities they did that not only "looked good" but built self-identify?

After freshman year: SMDEP at UNMC

After sophomore year: Research internship at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (US MARC)

After junior year (now): Back at US MARC to do a year of research and co-author a few manuscripts.

What you're doing is great. Don't forget to have fun over your summer as well.
