I realized today that I would like to put together a "bucket list" of sorts for the summer before medical school for things that I just don't know when I'll have time/energy to do again (at least not for many years). I then realized I don't have that many things to put on it (also, not a whole lot of money to spend on it, but there's plenty to do on a small budget).

1) Absolutely must get to a Bortle Class 1 or 2 stargazing site in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bortle_scale I want to see what the dense part of the Milky Way looks like in person because I am in awe of the pictures I've seen. I live in a Bortle 9 area, and the best I've seen in person was about a Bortle 4 or 5. Even that absolutely blew me away... I had no idea that satellites are visible with the naked eye without inner city light pollution until I saw a ton that night. Not to mention, I'd never, ever, EVER seen so many stars in the sky in person :wow:. Stupid inner city light pollution.

2) Go on a hunt in the city at new places for the best pizza and burgers I can find. I can't ever get enough of either of those two foods (BMI <20 though, so I don't eat them constantly!), but I currently tend to just stick with a few favorite establishments.

3) ???

(I know, I know... "4) Profit!" )

I'm still trying to think about what sorts of things I want to do.

What's on your immediately-pre-med bucket list? 🙂

1. Throw the craziest party ever while also avoiding noise complaints and cops showing up.
2. Take a road trip across the entire USA and visit every major tourist attraction.
3. Visit California (as part of the USA road trip) since I've still never been to the west coast (and I didn't apply to Cali schools b/c they're too competitive even for Cali residents).
4. Learn how to play the guitar.
5. Visit Europe (never had the chance or motivation to do that either).
6. Have another beach week.
7. Play through an entire multiplayer game's campaign or story mode in one sitting.

1) go skydiving (done)
2) get scuba certified (done)
3) go bungie jumping
4) travel to either Europe, New Zealand, or Australia
5) swim with wild dolphins (done and done)
6) make a complete fool of myself (ongoing process)
7) fall in love...

I took a gap year, made some money, and just completed a 10000 mile cross country road trip this summer. Highly recommend it to all!

Add in a Mountain Dew and this sounds amazing.

"A" Mountain Dew?

Amateur.

I highly recommend Alaska or Hawaii if you really want to blow your savings. 😛 I'm incredibly lucky enough to have been to both, and they're just so gorgeous.

Living at home before medical school and parents offered to pay for part of my tuition so I'm under their custody --> ain't allowed for fancy traveling soooooo

1) Working (help pay for the rest of my loans)
2) Eating and sleeping while I can.
3) Time with Sig Other.

1) go on vacation outside of california (i.e. cabo, hawaii or the carribbeans, a cruise...europe hopefully...)

You can combine #1 and #2 next summer by going to Australia... where it will be winter 😀

Mine has been:

1) Move in to my new (amazing!) apartment early so that I can enjoy it and relax
2) Plan my wedding which will be between M1 and M2. Fortunately most of this is done!
3) Visit home for at least a week and see people I haven't seen in 2 years since moving away

I stopped working mid-May (my lease in another city ended) so my fiance and I decided to move then. I have LOVED just relaxing and getting away from science for a bit (I was doing stem cell research for the past two years). My neighborhood is super friendly and my best friend was able to visit for a week. I was able to travel quite a bit in college - backpacking and working mostly - so I'm glad that I decided to just take it easy.

Then go down to LA for the food. You need to try In-N-Out 😀

Death Valley is supposed to be an excellent dark sky site. The closest Bortle 1 to me is in Minnesota... and then pretty much everything else is in the western half of the US. We (my space-enthusiast boyfriend and I) will have to decide the location based on whether to favor saving money or seeing more than just a beautiful sky 🙂

I posed this question to the FB masses before I posted it here, and my friends had some good ideas.

-Nicolas Cage marathon (this is definitely happening... all hail The One True God...)
-Re-read some favorite books that you've been meaning to read again, but haven't
-Take a cooking or baking class so when life gets stressful, you'll still eat well

I have great friends!

You had me excited their for a second. With an appropriate hunting season the light pollution problem you're so worried about could be solved
I'm trying to *save* lives, not take them away! I just wanted some burgers and pizza!

talk about blowing savings. Subway only has $10 footlongs in Alaska....
Are you kidding me? I had no idea. Now that is a part of Alaska that is unequivocally not worth paying more for... 😛

Already started planning my 3 week backpacking trip through Europe with my husband 🙂

Since this is a summer before medical school and since i havent gotten in yet, getting into medical school is on my bucket list for this summer.

I think I'm gonna try to do a lot of spontaneous stuff. I'm really indecisive so I'm not gonna even bother making a list...
