I am currently taking Gen Chem II as a summer class and I am struggling (80%) and I also feel like I am not retaining any information. Summer classes go so fast that I don't like I'm getting quality education. Should I withdraw and take Gen Chem II in the fall semester or stick out the class and just take the B and move on with my life. Also will this material re-appear on the PCAT?

P.S. I received a B in Gen Chem I as well and I think an A would look nice for Gen Chem II on my transcript.

Thanks in advance

Personally I would just take the B and move on, and get A's in organic. However, it will be on the PCAT so it's your call.

Just finish up the course. One B won't look that bad plus retaking a course would look worse on your transcript. You can always go back and teach yourself the parts you feel like you don't fully understand through your textbook.

I think some people are a little hard on themselves. Try to pull it above 80% and stick the B in the class. If you feel you're not getting a quality education then retake it but audit it to learn so it won't factor into your GPA. I would not retake a class to change from a B to an A, waste of money and time.

hey... i duno where you are taking this course... but look into it/ask other people on this forum.... but i know for stuff like applying to law school, they don't count or look at summer courses the same as courses taken during the year (i guess summer is supposed to be easier so they look down on it? though i agree with you.... definitely don't get a quality education on the course in the summer, making it difficult to get a good mark sometimes)... just my input, please other people add to this.

I didn't learn much in Gen Chem II. Just did enough to get a B. All my upper division courses went in depth with all Gen chem material. Being somewhat familiar with it will help you, but won't hurt you if you didn't understand alot of the stuff as you will relearn alot of it in your upper divs.

Whomever thinks summer classes are easier doesn't know wth they are talking about. Cramming 16 weeks of material into a five-week session, four nights a week for 4+hours a night, with exams and/or quizzes everyday... I never want to take a summer course again!

Regardless, I say stick it out for sure. You never really know how the rest of the class is doing or how the professor ultimately grades. They may be a stickler for points, or they may quietly curve at the end. Plus- I've seen a number of profs add Extra Credit near the end of a semester for those looking to boost their score. Not saying it's going to work in your favor, but you just don't know.

And either way, a B isn't a bad grade. Just keep focusing on high grades here going forward.

I took gen chem II in the summer as well. I made a B in the class. It was hard and fast paced and I did have to relearn some things when studying for the PCAT. But I survived and am starting pharmacy school this Fall so I don't think you should stress over it too much. That's just me...

Couldn't disagree more. I loved summer sessions. No time to forget anything. I hated Fall/Spring, they were sooooo long compared to summer A&B. The trick is to not over do it in the summer. I picked one hard class each term and got it out of the way. Made my Fall/Spring that much easier. 👍

It might not be so bad if I wasn't working a full-time job and raising a couple of kids. 😛
