Hey everyone. I currently attend Princeton, but was thinking of taking summer classes at Rutgers (I'm taking some classes over the summer since I'm graduating in 3 years). I was going to take bio and genetics; genetics is for Princeton credit, but is bio just for premed requirements. Does it look bad if I take upper level bio classes like genetics over the summer, even if those classes aren't premed requirements?

Taken from the HPA:

What about summer courses? We are often asked about taking one of the pre-med courses during summer school. While each of you is different and has different circumstances, we can generalize to this extent: taking requirements in the summer is not encouraged. Medical schools prefer that you do your pre-medical courses at your home institution (Princeton) in conjunction with a full course load during the academic year. This method of completing the courses best simulates what the heavy load of science in medical school will be like. It is a good idea to talk to us about summer courses, especially in the required sciences for med, vet, and dental school.

My friend was thinking about taking Orgo this summer near his family at a 4 year institution comparable to his college. Do you think that the course will be easier taken during the summer, or is the objection that you are isolating the course from all others and only have one course to study?

shindotp, I saw that on the HPA site, but the genetics class I'm taking isn't a premed req. Bio, on the other hand, is, but I have to take that to graduate early, and that's the only premed req that I'll be taking away from my home institution. My main concern is whether med schools will look down on it as an "easy way out" because it's being taken without a full course load.
