Do dental schools care whether or not one was to take a part time course load in the summer? I had someone ask me today, who has a 3.0 GPA but his summer courses (1 course a summer) were As and helped boost his mark a bit (w/o summer its around a 2.90). So seeing that the 1 course he takes is an A(or A+) but his full time course semester is around a 2.90 (vs a 4.0 summer semester), does that catch the admins attention?
I know medical schools, atleast here, dont look at any part time semesters in calculating GPA.

Thanks all.

i dont think i understand your question. but when u submit your aadsas app, all classes youve ever taken , (once u submit ur transcripts), are calculated into your aadsas GPA. whether theyre summer or during the regular semester.
unless you are on a quarter system or something, i really dont think dental schools even expect anyone to take full course loads in the summer.
any amount of "A's" in sciences can potentially help.

Is there a big difference between a 3.0 and 2.9? I don't think a 3.0 would ever catch the admission's attention.

I mean will they notice that the A+s were received when in part time status (1 course alone), while as a full time the average was a B or C (as an example)?

oh interesting. yea they will notice that. so u should show them u can get A's during the regular semester to, when u have full course loads. 👍

There's a nice little Load vs. GPA graph in their software (should they use it) that they can use as a quick visual representation of performance.

So with a low full time GPA, the summer classes arent going to make an impact? For instance my friend had a C- in orgo (while taking a full course load), and retook it in the summer (part time) and got a A. What will they think?
I only ask because if later a student is thinking of taking a course alone, or a retake class to improve a pre req, would it be better to do it with a full course load to show admins at DS that he can handle the course load?

Or does it not matter that much? Im just speaking because, as i said before, medical schools dont look at grades in summer.

thanks again .
