I did poorly in chem I this semester, and I need to retake the course. I was accepted into a summer program at a medical school in state, but it overlaps with the month I would retake chemistry. I was wondering if I should skip the program and retake the class over the summer, or continue with the program and retake the class in the fall. If I retake the class in the fall, I'll be taking it along with other 19 hrs, including organic (I'd retake chem I at a cc in the fall since there aren't any courses offered at my school that fit my schedule, which would bring my total hours to 23). I'd hate to miss out on the program, but if I don't retake chem I in a timely manner I'm afraid it might ruin my chances of admission. Please tell me what you would do if you were in my situation.

What kind of summer program is this? What will you be doing?

That kind of information might be helpful for us.

Also, you don't have to retake Gen Chem this summer or fall. You could retake it next summer.

what kind of summer program, i am just curious🙂?

Also, how poorly is "poorly"? If it's a C or higher, chalk it up as a learning experience and move on.

If it's a D or lower... I honestly find it a little hard to believe that you HAVE to take all of those other 19 hours at once (which is already pushing it). It's much better to take things at a reasonable pace and make sure you do well than burn yourself out. I would push back some of those hours and try to take Chem I next fall.

Agreed. This is good advice OP.
