Okay, so I won't be taking any summer classes at my school because they aren't offering anything that I need.

I was thinking about just getting a lot of volunteer hours this summer. Do you think that I should be doing anything in specific, even if it is not volunteering? I have about 35 hours of dental shadowing so far.

If I do volunteering, it will either be at a homeless shelter or a hospital.

Thanks 😀

If you are not working or taking classes, you should def use this summer to really pad your application with shadowing and volunteering. Shoot for about 100-150 hours of shadowing and try to have a variety of specialties that you obsvered (not just shadowing a GP the whole time)

Volunteering at the homeless shelter is good. I wouldn't volunteer at the hospital though unless there was a dental clinic in the hospital. It doesn't really matter to much what you do for volunteering as long as it make you happy and you are giving your time to the community.

Another thing adcoms look for in applicants is leadership qualities. You can find something through your school. My school have student mentors that would help incoming freshman adjust to university life. This is just an example. Good luck.

I would say shadowing for different dentists if you can and don't quit after you get enough hours. Commitment does count.

For me, helping homeless shelter is more fun than a hospital with all the rules and supervisors lol.

I'd try to get my shadowing hours between 100-150. After that, volunteering hours are a highly recommended thing to have.

You can volunteer in anything you enjoy, it doesn't have to be health care related.
