Hey,

I'm a freshman right now and I'm interested in doing some summer medical research / internships but most require 2 LOR. Since I've only been through 1 semester with all but 1 large lecture classes I don't have any close professors that can write on for me.

Do you guys know any that do not require LOR? Or should I just volunteer at a hospital over the summer?

Thanks!

I don't even think that summer research programs would accept a Freshman. Just stick with volunteering for now or try to ask your professors if they can let you work in their labs.

The summer research programs I was in had freshmen. They had really strong apps, though. Most were in BS/MD programs so they had conditional acceptances to med schools already. Some also had prior research experiences in high school.

If you're a freshman, I'd recommend SMDEP. Don't know if the deadlines have passed yet or not, but it's a wonderful program. Helps you build history with a school you might later chose to apply to.

The stronger/better programs require a LOR.
