I live in NYC and am planning to take both semester of physics this summer at Columbia. I curious as to what the course will be like...I mean, does anyone have experience with the physics department at Columbia? How does it compare to NYU? I'm hoping to get a part time job at the same time as the class, but do you think this would be over-exertion? I guess what I'm really getting at is the difficulty of intro physics at Columbia haha...thanks!

I took physics at Columbia two years ago. It wasn't too bad. I got 102 points out of 104 total for my first test without "talking" to my professor. two days later had to withdraw myself because the school bully was flashing D card on my way to class. a little whimpy to withdraw, in retrospect, my reason to feel scared was all right. later on this person, who was in the same class with me, named "Zhong Ying" who claimed to be a nontrad, trapped someone else and disappeared from school.

I've had a similar experience at another college. Sounds pretty standard for a summer course.

Well there are many things to consider.
First, in schools like these they tend to share many of the same professors. Dr. Budick who is teaching this summer physics I ( who I took) is actually an adjunct here at Columbia and a fulltime professor of NYU. So in this case it wouldn't really matter whether you decide to go to NYU or here because it's virtually the same professor.
Second, professors don't like to teach over the summer so they usually get professors from other schools to come and teach. Therefore, there is some guy teaching physics II who I have never heard of (probably from a different school). These teachers are usually ridiculously tough and pretty much are there for the money.
Budick is a horrible professor who spends more than half of the time telling you stories about his personal life rather than the actual material, but some students like this since they are used to teaching themselves everything anyhow. I like to be taught, since I am paying 1400 dollars a credit, but that's me.

I don't know who kaiser is, who took over two years ago but class averages here are usually mid 60's and the classes are curved to a B/B-. Trust me, there is nothing simple about Budick or physics in general, especially in a condensed version, and I guarantee you that it would probably be close to impossible to get over 100%, considering the fact there is no such thing as extra credit here.

All in all, good luck. **** is tough but I'm currently going through a Kaplan course with other NYU students and I would say that they are definitely on top of their game. If I was going to NYU and I had a choice to either stay there or come here I would save my money and stay at NYU. good luck in your decision hope this helps.

tl;dr I would not spend money to take Budick. As a matter of fact, you couldn't pay me enough to take Budick again. He will hurt your GPA and not teach you anything! Find somewhere else that will ensure you get a good education and help your GPA as well. 👍

Don't listen to this guy. Completely false!!

Lastly, Joel Gersten, who is teaching Physics II has incredibly horrible ratings. Read Culpa before making a huge mistake and wasting your money. Do not come here for Physics......Trust me you will thank me later.

Does anyone know who's teaching Physics II over the summer this year (2018)?
