I'm currently a Pre-Optometry student attending my local junior college here in Ventura, CA. I'm knocking out most, but not all of the prerequisites for Optometry School here. I plan on applying to numerous UC/CSUs this coming Fall in hope of successfully transferring out and attending a four year institution by the Fall '12. I've recently came across Berkeley's three day Opto-Camp residency program for Pre-Optometry students interested in learning more about the field that will be taking place this June & July. 👍I'll definitely be applying for that! With that being said, I wanted to know if anyone here knows of any other summer programs that may be available in the state of California. I'm yet to shadow an OD, however I'd really like to jump on any given opportunities toward learning more about the field of Optometry during this coming Summer! Shoot, I'm willing to even give it another shot or attend a second similar type program next summer if given the opportunity, of course! Any info or advice would greatly be appreciated!

Nope, UCB is the only one. I think I once heard of PCO and/or SUNY doing something like that...? I can't remember, but either way, it's obviously pretty far from CA.

Good luck getting into the camp, though you you may be a bit premature (they try to let the older students/students closer to actually going to school go first), good luck on your application!

Very premature! Hey, I'll get there though! Thanks for replying!

The one at UCBSO is really good. And you are not all that premature, I went the summer after my sophomore year. There were only two of us that weren't juniors, seniors, or already graduated but I think we still got just as much out of it.

Also, ICO and the school in Ohio both have programs, but I think you have to be a minority for those. The SUNY program is only for NY state residents. and UHCO has some sort of program but I am not sure how it works.

^ Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll get accepted.

I believe Pacific University (Oregon) has one too. It's called insight. It's one that's closer to California if you're interested. 🙂
