I've seen so many threads saying less than 5% acceptance and that you need a high GPA. If my GPA is low (3.14) but upward trend (3.7 last semester). I've applied to about 7 and plan to apply to more. Do I have a shot at any based on my gpa? I have a LOR from a dept chair at the med school of an ivy league. I worked in their lab and the letter is excellent....how much would this weigh in comparison to a mediocre GPA? And I'm not applying to the ones at like mayo, vanderbilty, mt sinai, etc. I applied to Cincinnati childrens and mostly university based ones like OSU, Michigan, and Washington.

Thank you

Anyone willing to weigh in their opinion? I'm actually curious as well.

Hm I think it's really a screening process and they just take the crem de le crem (sp?). I remember being told at my internship many times how much they were impressed with my gpa, and I was just like 😳 and got the feeling that's all they looked at. It would certainly be faster and more economical for programs to do that.

Fit might be important, like if you so happen to interested in something super specific. People are impressed with Ivies (I've been behind the scenes and they mention it a lot; I'm from a state school though so maybe we're more impressed by it). In general they want to get the best people to make their program look good, where "best people" might be defined as meeting some mission or on my flat indices like GPA. Having Ivies helps your reputation too.

I'm from a state school as well just worked in the lab over the summer...if they take such high gpas what's the point of making the minimum 3.0? Maybe to encourage underrepresented people to apply? Idk seems odd but hopefully one works out. I applied to neuroscience ones, am majoring in it, the research experience is in it, and do well in the classes, so hopefully dedication to this topic helps
