I'm a freshman in college right now and I'm trying to decide what to do this summer and I really want to apply for summer programs with exposure to something pharmacy related but all I come across are programs for medicine or dental. The medicine summer programs seem interesting especially the SMDEP at UWASH and YALE, but I'm not sure if it's fit for me.. any inputs would be great. Thanks!

Hey, any summer program LOOKS good.. because so few people do them. But if you want one related to pharmacy there are hundreds dealing with Biomedical research in Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, and Natural Products. If you have any experience in those three things it will look VERY good. I did one last summer and am doing one again this summer. Its a different view of the pharmacy industry and different from what most Pharm D's do. But yea, I would definitely check into that. Yale actually has a Pharmacology Biomed research this summer. Good luck

Yea I was looking into the Yale program..the thing is though I don't know if I'll be able to get into any of those programs because my first quarter college gpa is extremely low.

How did you like the program? I'm not really into the research thing...do you think it will be right for me? Thanks

Usually summer programs aren't for Freshman... Most aren't anyways. But I will say that research, I wouldn't have thought it was for me either but once I did it, it was such a great experience working side by side with a PhD. all summer, you learn ALOT its going to make school easier for you the following semesters and like I said, it sets you apart from other students significantly. But being a freshman with a not so great GPA freshman year, you might want to wait til next year to seriously consider doing it, but for this year just apply... what do you have to lose?
