Hello everyone, I am an upcoming junior with a summer dilemma. Today I received an opportunity to do research at the NIH as an Amgen Scholar for the summer. This is an amazing position, but a part of me says to stay at my home university and to do research there. I recently got a research position at my school this semester and would like to build up my relationship with my PI for a good LOR in the near future. But then I do not want to not accept the Amgen position at the NIH at the same time. I would appreciate any feedback on to what I should do.

Do the amgen scholarship. You'll get a nice poster, a letter of rec from your NIH PI (pretty big names there!), and you can come back to your school to continue the research. Just work hard now at your lab for the remainder of the year so that he/she can write you a good letter of rec come senior year.

Congrats. I got accepted into the same program. I think I'm going to accept it over other programs because they have one of the best financial packages. Over $2000 a month stipend, housing, and travel expenses. Just explain the situation to the PI, they should be supportive. Especially if you aren't heavily involved yet.

Yup the Amgen opportunity is a bit too good to pass up. Congrats!
