I was wondering how manageable Summer research is if you’ve never done research before.

I’ve always been scared because I am afraid I will be expected to have some novel idea I am testing myself and won’t be able to do it. I’m afraid my brain isn’t creative enough to think of new ideas.

I’ve done gel electrophoresis and pipetting and other basic lab techniques in classes before. I’m not a complete imbecile in technique.

Are PI’s understanding and good at working with premed/incoming medical students with no prior experience?

Generally, unless the PI explicitly mentions that he/she expects proficiency in certain lab techniques (which is rare), you will be fully trained at the beginning.

You're also usually given a project to work on by the PI and can move with the project in a certain direction once you've learned how to experiment and test hypotheses.
