I need some help. I wanted to apply for an REU at a certain university so I could get some paid research in over the summer. On the application, however, they want letters of recommendation from two different chemistry professors. I am currently a sophomore. My first semester, I had a one professor. I had a different professor my second semester who, coincedently enough, is going to teach Organic Chemistry I and II at my school (my sophomore years). In other words, I will have had only two different chemistry professors. The problem is that I am not sure my first chem professor will write me a lor and if he does, god knows how it will turn out. Do you think I should still ask him because I am sure he does not remember at all. Do you guys know of anyway of getting around this? Thanks. Later.

Is it a National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduate program? If it is, you might get away with a semi-decent rec letter. Word on the street is that many do not apply to the NSF REU's so you have some saving grace, but it depends on your school. What program is it? Research in organic chemistry? Check with the NSF coordinator, and see what his/her opinion is. They would be the one picking the students for the program.
