I'll be graduating in May and want to spend the summer doing some sort of research. Is there any funding or opportunities for recently graduated people? I would even be open to just helping out in a lab without the funding. Would professors at different universities be open to having someone come in and help out that wasn't a part of a program?

I would like to be somewhere in the midwest (Illinois/Wisconsin) as I have ties there.

Do a bit of research of the major schools in that area and send your CV in as soon as possible. Also, make sure to read up on that professor/PI's research. If you're not a little late, try the NSF or ICBP (cancer research) summer programs around the country. Apply soon though because I think the deadlines are around the corner. That pretty much sums up what I have done every year. Good luck.

there are also SURF programs but i dont know if graduating seniors can participate in those programs.
