Really interested in doing a summer research internship this summer away from my home university. However, I'm going on a volunteer trip for two weeks in july. Anyone know of any research programs that would allow this? If not, does anyone know if it is acceptable to just ask a professor at another university if I can do research for them? If so, how would I go about getting funding?

I would say formal volunteering programs are out of the question since most (read: all) require you to be available for 8-12 consecutive weeks. Maybe if you already have a research project at your home institution you can continue that one this summer...?
