This is for all of the pod students who are in the rut and are missing life and home. This is your chance to speak out about your summer/sophmore/junior slump. Let us know what you miss about home. I'll go first.

First I miss being in a place where the beaches are never more than 10 minutes away and the sand is softer and whiter than flour(beaches in miami suck). I miss being less than 3 hours away from New Orleans. Anyone who has been there knows what it is like to be standing on canal and bourbon waiting for the st. charles, or eating beingets at cafe du monde. Being able to drive down and see the saints and drink more beer than is humanly possible. I miss the florida, alabama and missisippi gulf coast that is forever changed after facing Ivan, Katrina and others. The air traffic that is loaded with SNA's and SNFO's that are working hard learning how to fly, live and die for the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Definitely missing the roar of the Blues. I miss the people who understand what customer service is and know what personal space means. Don't laugh, but I miss porches...Just 800 miles away.

Miami isnt terrible...just...different...one more thing...do you know how hard it is to find mexican food here?

🙁

Beaches on the gulf are much better than the beaches on the atlantic...you know what I mean about the sand thing. Any good mexican restaurants in clearwater?

spooge,

I don't know what's wrong with Miami, but there are AWESOME Mexican places over here.

Nothing can EVER compare to this Mexican place in Logan, Utah. El Toro Viejo. It was fantastic. I miss it. Eh, but you take what you can get.

I know exactly what you mean by the sand. Atlantic beaches suck, man.

So how do you podiatry students deal with being at school during every summer? I don't know about everyone else, but I usually go on vacation with my family once every summer. How do you deal with the fact that this phenomenon is essentially over for good? Because during residency, you will be working 60-80 hour weeks during the summer, and after you graduate and work as an associate, the two weeks of "vacation" time in your contract will hardly allow for any true "vacationing" (unless you can avoid missing ANY days during the year...).

Just moved to Chicago-area from Phoenix, and... Already missing the 120 degree weather that makes you feel as if your eyeballs are literally cooking in their sockets, the rush hour that starts at 3pm and lets up at about 7:30, my skin as soft as sandpaper from the lack of moisture, and the thin layer of dust that seems to coat everything in the house after a few days...Ah Phoenix! There are tons of things I'll miss, but I'm not thinking that way yet. Check back with me about December-January time!

Well, once you start ANY job, you will lose summer vacation, unless you go into teaching. So, you don't necessarily have to go into medicine to lose the perk of summer vacations.

That's why I'm hoping to eventually operate a practice successful enough to allow me to take 6-8 weeks of vacation per year as is common for many doctors, such as anesthesiologists, radiologists, surgeons, dentists, etc.

Miss this...

Nothing like EP's....

If engine failure occurs at very low altitude, priority shall be given to accomplishing first five steps, which may be performed concurrently.
Flying speed - MAINTAIN (100 KIAS min) ["Speed"]Engine instruments - CHECK ["Check"]
WARNING
: If N1 & ITT indicate rollback
condition (FCU stuck at min flow), execute Loss
of Useful Power procedure. If application of
power results in compressor stalls (possible
compressor bleed valve malfunction/failure),
execute Compressor Stalls procedure.Condition lever - FTHR ["Feather"]Gear & Flaps - UP ["Clean"]Landing site - SELECT ["Look"]Harness - LOCKED ["Lock"]
Next decision: "A" airstart, "B" bailout, "C" continue forced landing
Perform - Airstart procedure
If airstart not attempted or is unsuccessful:
No landing site available and altitude permits - Bailout
If forced landing is to be continued:Condition lever - FUEL OFFEmergency fuel shutoff handle - PULLBroadcast - Mayday (UHF), 7700 (transponder)
Enter ELP at or below high keyGear & flaps - AS REQUIRED (Paved - gear down, flaps up; Unpaved - gear up, flaps down)Canopy - EMERGENCY OPENBattery switch - OFF

-It gives me that special feeling in that special place when I think about it...Live by the gouge - die by the gouge

:scared: I would probably die. I can barely work the can opener.
The bailout would be my first step.

I am in my last week of my last summer break and am horribly sad about it. And moving into 2nd year, I know what to expect, so it makes me even more sad that my summer days are numbered! Back to the grind.
