Does SUNY accept students who completed ALL of their pre-req science courses at a 2-year college (community college)?

Let's suppose that this applicant's science GPA was excellent (3.8+), and that the OAT score was decent as well (320+).

Do they have specific regulations on this matter?

Hey,
I'm not positive but I remember reading in one of their catalogs that they dont require a bachelor's or any specific degree only some specific number of credtis (cant remember the number) and all the pre-reqs.....but u should just send them an email or call and make sure

From SUNY's website: http://www.sunyopt.edu/admissions/course_req.shtml
To be considered as a candidate for admission to the professional O.D. program, a minimum of three years (90 semester credits) of undergraduate study is required, but a Bachelor's degree is recommended. All of the course requirements should be met by enrollment at a four year college or university in those courses specifically offered for departmental majors or pre-professional students and should not be brief or survey courses. Letter grades should be awarded for all required courses, and should be completed successfully with a grade C or better.
As the previous poster suggested, call the admissions office to get more information.

Good luck. :luck:

SUNY requires a minimum of three undergraduate years (90 credits), as do most schools in the US (some even require a degree). good luck! 🙂

Contrary to what many people will tell you, the admission committee will look at community college credits differently than 4 yr university credits. With that said, if you only take a couple classes there that is ok, but if you do all your pre-req course work at CC, you may have some trouble getting in. I know this to me true b/c I have checked with "people in high places."

I actually called SUNY a while back and they told me that taking one or two classes at a community college is fine, but taking all of them is really looked down upon and I would have a more difficult time getting accepted.

Also, if you are from California, going to a state school vs. going to a UC will hurt you to an extent. The admissions committee looks down on Cal States. This was strongly implied by Dr. J.

to be fair, UC is a state school!

i got that vibe as well when he visited my school which i feel in unfortunate. not that i am complaining since i go to a UC school! but a lot of the cal states, especially pomona and san luis bispo are excellent, excellent schools IMHO. i have friends that go there that put people at my school to shame! but i guess UCs have the reputation of being better and being thousands of miles away, SUNY doesnt have the chance to see the Cal State schools for what they are worth, though i am sure they will look at you as an individual and UC or not and give you a fair chance.

though i would say CCs are not favored. it was implied (not very subtly) that a B at a 4 year university is roughly equal to an A at a CC.

Unfortunantly, I'm taking all my pre-reqs at a community college, so I wont waste my time applying to SUNY eventhough i already have a bachelor's degree.
