hey I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. i'm a Canadian applicant who got accepted to UPitt and Suny-Buffalo; they are both great dental schools and that's why it's hard to decide. One thing though is UPitt is about $6000 more than Buffalo per year in terms of total expenses for a nonresident. But I'm kinda leaning towards Upitt for some reason...what do you guys know about buffalo?

thanks so much!

I know that after the first year you quailify as a resident at Buffalo. Well, I know that is the case with US residents, not sure if you are from Canada.

does anyone know if Upitt goes all year except for a few weeks off in the summer? I know buffalo gets 2 months off in the summer for 1st year!

so far there has been lots said about Pitt but not much said about buffalo. UB is an awesome dental school but maybe nobody wants to live in buffalo? what do you guys think?

any advice would help with my decision, I can't make up my mind!!!!

I loved U at Buffalo when I visited. If I didn't get into my state school, Buffalo was my choice!

I'd go with Buffalo. it is a great school in both clinical and research. it is also closer to canada (= cheaper airline tickets). the environment is much nicer than the environment around Upitt. also, there is less distraction in Buffalo, so you will get work done! my opinion.

good luck..

I am currently a third year at Buffalo. I think they have a great program, I don't know anything about Pitt so I wouldn't be able to compare it. We definitely are getting tons of clinical experience as third years. My class did extremely well on the part I boards, we placed 6th or 7th last year (we have 90 students in my class) - so we are really good in the didactic material as well. Please ask me any questions you might have.

Many of my classmates from NYC said the same thing comet208 did. They find Buffalo to be a really good study environment because there are few distractions. We do have a number of students from Canada in each class, and there are even some who live in Fort Erie, Onatario and commute over every day, if that is an option you were looking at.

HI there,

I am a Canadian applicant as well, I just wanted to ask you duckie, what is your GPA and your DAT scores because am interested in Buffallo and pitt as well.
If anybody knows information about GPAs or DAT scores for these two schools , please post ASAP.

Thanks,
SAAALLLL

To answer your question, I didn't have a great GPA and PAt scores but i think my interviewers were most impressed with my essay and past experience.

i had 3.4 GPA and academic 20; PAT 16; (sooo low!)

I'm kinda afraid that I would lag behind most of my classmates when I do attend Buffalo because I got near the end of the application cycle...kinda like the last off the waitlist...

can anyone tell me how difficult is the circurrulum in buffalo and will we have a life?

thanks.

I had the same question when I visited Pitt. In between each "year" they only get about 2 weeks off, which kind of sucks after 2nd year when you'd like some "free time" to study for boards....something to consider.

hey... if you decided on pitt, thats where i am going too. we should chat!

Congrats on getting in. It's a really good school.

I can't really understand this line of thinking, seriously. So since I have a shot at getting into Canadian schools, Buffalo won't even interview me because they think I'll leave them when I get into a Canadian school. That's weak man, I even drove down there to tell Dr. Joynt Buffalo was my number one choice - I guess he didn't believe me. And there is no way that it's my extra currics that are keeping me back. He was right though, if i did get into a canadian school i would drop my Buffalo acceptance but even still, do they use this line of thinking for people from Cali? Damn you past Canadians who bailed on Buffalo last minute  The funny thing was that Dr. Joynt kept saying that it's a really competitive year and there are just so many applications, etc.

Congrats again!

On another note, my buddy just got into Harvard Meds!
