Hey SUNY Buffalo students,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out, esp. any canadians. Do you know what kind of grades I need to get in? My stats are ok, but I know that it's not so easy to get into a state school. I would love to go to Buffalo, i've heard really good things about it. The dentist I shadow did his undergrad at UT and then went across the boarder to SUNY and he said it was amazing. It's so close to home and the tuition is reasonable.

Thanks. 🙂

I would suggest you call the admissions office with your question. They are very busy with first year orientation right now, but in two weeks things should calm down. Last year at UB was very competitive - 1300 apps for 85 spots. So the stats needed will likely be a bit higher than what you see posted on the web site. I would also ask them if they hold Canadians (who will be on student visas) to higher standards.

If it helps, I just started first year orientation two days ago, and I've met 3 Canadians already. So UB definitely admits a reasonable number of canadian students.

Hey,

Thanks for the post. I actually called them yesterday to find out. The lady said that they didn't hold Canadians to any higher standards really. The only thing is that I'd obviously be competing against out-of-staters. She said that an applicant that is strong has a GPA of 3.5 and DAT scores of 20s across the board. She said that they also accept students with 19s or even 18s across the board but to be really strong you need 20s. Hope this helps anyone interested.

Since I am also applying to Buffalo, I looked up their stats in this year's ADEA book:

SUNY Buffalo (2004-2005 entering class)
Overall GPA: 3.41
Science GPA: 3.35
Academic DAT: 19.21
Perceptual DAT: 17.98

945 applied; 86 accepted; 61 in-state/26 out-of-state

Our current cycle is 2 years later, so expect the numbers to be higher!

Yup, seems about right. So a 3.5 20 DAT will make you pretty competitive. Good luck everyone!

At our orientation for the Class of 2009, Dr. Joynt (Admissions Director) gave us the following stats for our incoming class:

1308 applicants for 85 slots
Academic Average: 19.36
Avg PAT: 17.84
Mean GPA: 3.51

He said it was the most competitive year at Buffalo since sometime in the early 1980s.

So for all applying for the class of 2010, you could probably expect similar statistics, if not slightly higher. Dr. Joynt seemed to imply that applicant numbers are higher at all schools nationwide, not just Buffalo.

Good luck. Get your application in sooner rather than later. The Admissions Office already has a huge stack of applications, which they'll start looking at shortly.

Hey guys, did you actually submit your high school transcripts? I'm just having some trouble getting a hold of them, and am waiting for the admin office at suny to get back to me... THanks

I did, as did most of new classmates. But if it is a real pain in the butt to do, I am sure they can make exceptions. It sounds like you've called already inquiring about that. Good luck.
