SUNY Downstate: Pros and Cons

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
positives include NYC (though not exactly in the heart of manhattan), good price if you're in-state. solid clinical experience given the underserved population.

negatives include average reputation (slightly better in the NY metro area though); high cost for nonresidents; crappy location; high cost of living given it's NYC.

Pros: Living in NYC (an experience unto itself), good clinical exposure.
Cons: Very high cost of living in NYC

Pros: Good residency matching, strong clinical experience,.Neighborhood is "ghetto like" but not far at all from Park Slope and nicer areas of Brooklyn and a quick 35- 40 min train trip to manhattan, relatively low tuition
Cons:Facilities while adequate are fairly old and run down appearing.
Immediate neighborhood offers little.
