i was wondering if anyone could quickly throw out any input or information they may have about the program in brooklyn. i am interviewing there and just wnated to see if i could get a heads up. Anyone?
thanks

well i dont know if nobody knew anything about downstate or just didnt wanna share...but since i asked ppl for what they thought, i think itd only be fair to show u all the same courtesy.

So there are three interview sessions with 2-3 faculty each, very very chill and laid back, each lasting about 10-15 minutes (seems like about 2 minutes). Basically they just wanna quickly see that ur normal i think. They have two interview dates and do 25-30 each of those two days.

Residents seemed very laid back, funny, and pretty confident in what they were doing.

Variety of hospitals u work at so patient population will vary.

Very Very independent style of learning.

Location is brooklyn so, its either U or not U. Thats a personal choice.

few things as i interviewed there last yr, & grew up in bklyn:
1) very busy... they have to cover something like 7 hosps., sucks when u r on call & have to drive to staten island..
2)many residents not happy when i interviewed.. lack of attendings, poor teaching, etc..

Solid program. It's busy but you'll see a lot. You don't cover 7 hospitals at the same time. (Don't listen to nyeyes, he is bitter lol). Your schedule is broken down into different rotations and when u are on call u cover 2-3 hospitals. No shortage of cases like in other places. They have full time attendings in all the main subspecialties. Residents there are very pleasant and friendly. So if you'd like to be an experienced ophthalmologist when u finish and would like to live in NY then it's definitely a program to consider.
