can anyone comment on the quality of residency training of the SUNY psychiatry residency programs? relatively speaking, how difficult is it to get into the SUNYs for psych?
i have heard that the SUNY psychiatry programs are msotly filled with FMGs. any truth to this?
do any of the SUNYs offer contracts outside the match to USIMGs?
any advice on how one can make themselves more applealing to these SUNY programs?
i have heard that psychiatry programs (especially the mid tier and low tier programs) doesn't place as much value on board scores, as other specialties do. so, if mostly everyone has the same relative board scores, same generic letters of recommedation, and bs personal statement, and about 200 people apply/interview, does everything ride mostly on the interview?
how do these psych programs rank ppl when the same general "tier" of applicant is applying? what do to the non harvards, non upenns, or non columbias look for in a candidate that separates that person from the rest?
is there anything i can do to strengthen my chances besides doing an elective at the specific program there and flat out telling them that they are my top choice?
any thoughts? if anyone is a resident at any of the SUNYs, or interviewed there, please reply or pm me. thanks.
