Hello everyone. I am new to this site and from what I read, it looks like you guys can really help me with a couple of questions I have regarding Stony Brook. I live in Brooklyn and I am embarking on my dental career (very excited to say the least). I have been looking at school websites in my area and I have visited NYU a few weeks ago. I am also very interested in Stony Brook and plan on visiting the school soon but I wanted to see from Stony Brook students what their experiece is like:

1. From what I hear, classes are mixed between the dental and medical students. Is that good or bad, depending on the details in those classes. I assume that medical students need to more detail than dental students in certain areas?

2. Since I live in Brooklyn, would it make sense for me to travel, by car, to and from school everyday or should I just live there?

3. Is Stony Brook considered a high ranking school, when looking for jobs upon graduation? Does it look good on your resume to say that you went to a SUNY school or is it better to show that you went to NYU or Columbia?

- Thanks in advance for helping me out with these question- 😉

I'm not a Stony student, but I can answer most of your questions:

1. Personally I think it's fine to share didactic classes with med students. We do that up here at Buffalo too and I haven't had any problems.

2. You DO NOT want to commute to Stony from Brooklyn. You don't want to spend 3+ hours a day travelling. Just live there.

3. It matters little what dental school you graduate from when looking for an associateship.

HTH.
