For anyone who's interested in SUNY Stony Brook's EM residency, I'm one of the residents. Post or PM me any questions you have about this program, or on the application process for residency.

SUNY Stony Brook University hospital is a 123 MD EM residency. It is THE ONLY level one trauma center in all of Suffolk County (Long Island, New York). We see 75,000 patients a year and have a shock trauma center, helicopter service, psych ER. Ancillary staff is AWESOME and all the residents & attendings rock! Program has emphasis in research & ultrasound applications.

Good luck with applications,

I'm a New York resident and have been looking at some good SUNY schools for the future. I will obviously be pre-med, not quite sure about a major, but do you think Stony Brook would be a good idea? I've also considered SUNY Albany.

Someone PM'd me today (Thurs, 8/19) but I accidentally deleted the message by mistake. If you could resend that message, I will answer any question you may have.

Depends on what kind of program you are looking for. Some programs emphasize primary care, while others emphasize surgical specialties more. Some programs have rigid schedules during 3rd year with lots of elective time during 4th year, while others have flexible 3rd year schedules with less elective time during 4th year. I didn't go to Stony Brook for med school so I don't know too much about their curriculum. However, from the students I have worked with and the attendings who were trained at Stony Brook, I would say it's a very good med school which will prepare you for anything you want to do.

I just read your post again, are you asking about Stony Brook undergrad or the med school?

both, I'm a high school student, and I am interested in Stony Brook. Thanks!

You're welcome. That's as much as I can tell you about the med school. I don't know anything about Stony Brook undergrad. Try posting on the pre allopathic or allopathic forums and see if any current Stony Brook med student who also went to Stony Brook undergrad can shed some light.

Best of luck,
