I am in that same boat bro. Personally I am leaning towards Pittsburgh, but UB is a lot cheaper. Not sure if your instate or not.

There is no 'best' undergrad for pre-med. Go where you are the happiest, get the most for your money, and have the most oppotunities for research and EC's. This is a gut call. And a financial one. Cheaper is better.

I'm in PA and if I do not get accepted into Pitt, I'm considering going out of state to SUNY schools. Or should I just stay in state and go to Duquesne University??? Tough decision guys.

Which do you want to attend? Have you toured them? That is the easiest way to know if a college is right for you. Is money a factor? If so, where can you get the most/best financial aid.

I want to attend Pitt, but want some other solid option if I do not get accepted. No, money is not an option. Sophomore atm probably will end up having 3.42 uw and 3.6 w with the way everything looks by end of Junior year. Scenario 1 - I get accepted into PITT, Scenario 2 - I get rejected by PITT and go to safety school Duquesne University, Scenario 3 - Get rejected by Pitt and go to SUNY colleges instead of Duquesne University.

So I'm a little biased on this (I'm a junior at UB), but I'm gonna throw in my 2 cents anyway.
I came to UB because of the money....they offered me an awesome scholarship, and I'll have no debt once I graduate from here. This has helped me tremendously, because I've been able to spend money on things that I probably wouldn't have been able to if I wen to a private (I was really close on doing that). Also, as I'm beginning the applying to med school thing, what no one ever tells you until you're actually doing it is how expensive just APPLYING to medical school is. In the next year, I'm expecting to dish out at least $5,000, which could easily go much higher depending on the # of interviews I get. While I wonder if I would've had better experiences elsewhere, I still never regret choosing the state school because of the money.

As for pre-med...it doesn't matter as much where you go, it's what you do there. I've heard from numerous people that if you have a 4.0 at a state school, and a 2.75 at Harvard, med schools will choose the 4.0 guy almost every time.

As for UB, it's got a lot of opportunities, it has it's own medical school, so everyone here knows what med schools want. If you want more details, you can either post here and pm me. Hope this helps!
