For Upstate:

I have heard this, and I have no evidence to dispute it, but at my interview date last year, there were 14 instaters and me. This is by no means conclusive or anything, but still... I remember seeing in the MSAR that they interview far more instate than out. I can't find my copy though... I'll edit if I find it.

Downstate

in-state
applicants 1,586
interviewed 677
matriculated 171

out-of-state
applicants 1,092
interviewed 229
matriculated 13

~43% in-state applicants interviewed vs. ~21% out-of-state...

It does state in the MSAR that preference is given to NYS residents.

Upstate

in-state
applicants 1,620
interviewed 479
matriculated 132

out-of-state
applicants 771
interviewed 105
matriculated 21

~30% in-state vs. ~14% (though those are interview rates...I'm not sure what the acceptance rates are.)

Those odds aren't too bad if you get to the interview 🙂

But, dammit, Cerb...I'm in-state! The SUNY schools' leniency works against me...

Good luck to you, though, and congratulations on your Upstate interview already. I'm still waiting for my school to send in my LORs... <sigh>
